Zane — Gravhounds Crew
A named operator in the five-hound roster, with the same factory tools as the rest of the pack.
Zane is one of the five playable Gravhounds named in launch-week coverage alongside Dozer, Selene, Finn, and Luna. TechTimes and related gamescom roundups list the crew as distinct voices and strengths. What they do not do is publish a full ability card for Zane the way Josh Holmes did for Dozer’s bone bombs, Selene’s Fetch disc, and Finn’s Play Dead in the IGN sit-down. This page stays on the honest side of that line.
If you queued Zane because the trailer liked his silhouette, you still get the entire factory floor: Grav Beam, pipelines, fabricators, turrets, propulsion boost, and the same weapon pool. Gravhounds is not a class shooter. Zane is a worker with a personality kit, not a locked tank or mage.
What is confirmed
- Zane is a playable bio-engineered canine operator in the launch-era roster of five.
- Each Gravhound has a unique ability. Holmes said that on camera. He then exemplified Dozer, Selene, and Finn. Zane’s unique tool was not named in that same breath.
- Dedicated voice acting is part of the five-hound pitch. Do not expect silent protagonists.
- Unlocks will add more Gravhounds later; Zane is already in the named set, not a rumor.
Until Octopus Panic posts a kit blog, treat any “Zane is secretly the sniper” thread as fan casting. We will update this URL when a real ability name exists. We will not invent one to fill a heading.
How to play Zane on day one anyway
Play the loop. Read Getting Started. On a four-stack, Zane can wear any of the four hats from the co-op guide: spine, mule, gun, or clock. Because his unique kit is unpublished, he is a clean flex pick — you will not be tempted to force a gimmick the studio has not shipped in public.
Practical first-shift plan:
- Be the player who actually sockets the fabricator. Flex hounds make great spine leads because they are not hunting a mine or a Frisbee highlight.
- Learn beam dumps before you learn fancy tech. Volatile cargo does not care whose name is on the collar.
- Watch how Dozer and Selene spend their unique buttons, then spend your button when you know what it is. Until then, guns, kits, and extract calls are enough.
- Check the preview tier list. Zane sits in a flex band there for the same missing-data reason, not because he is weak.
Pack partners
- With Dozer: let Dozer deny ground while Zane runs pipe and kits.
- With Selene: let Selene take the long Fetch; Zane holds the middle of the map.
- With Finn: Finn can stall a down; Zane should be the one still printing kits.
- With Luna: two flex hounds is fine. Name a clock so you still extract. See How to extract.
Why Zane still deserves a page
Searchers will look up each name. A stub that says “coming soon” is how wikis rot. A full page that teaches the shared job and admits the unique kit is unpublished is more useful than a fake cooldown table. When Early Access patch notes name Zane’s ability, this article should grow a kit section and a pairing chart, not a rewrite of the loop.
For now: pick Zane if you like the vibe, play him like a competent Gravhound, and let COSMO keep you employed. The Crew hub lists the rest of the pack. The Guides hub keeps you alive long enough to find out what the unique button actually does.
Flex does not mean silent
Call your hat. Flex players skip voice and then wonder why two people printed kits and nobody watched wildlife. Zane is a good clock because he is not hunting a named gimmick. He is also a good mule. He is a bad ghost. Put him on the co-op list next to the dropship, then play the Getting Started order until the unique button has a name worth a second page section.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for Gravhounds players.
What is Zane's unique ability in Gravhounds?
Not publicly named in the gamescom interviews that detailed Dozer, Selene, and Finn. He still has a unique kit; we will add the name when Octopus Panic publishes it.
Can Zane build and use the Grav Beam?
Yes. Building and the Grav Beam are shared. See How to build.
Is Zane good for beginners?
Yes, as a flex operator. Learn the loop on Getting Started rather than waiting for a hidden tech tree.
Will more kits for Zane be added?
Early Access is expected to add upgrade paths and possibly more tools. Track that on Early Access.
