Finn — Gravhounds Crew

Play Dead is a stall, not a personality substitute for leaving on time.

Finn Crew Guide

Finn is the Gravhound Holmes pointed at in the trailer discussion: Play Dead. In the IGN gamescom interview, that ability is the example of dog personality turning into a combat tool without turning Gravhounds into a class-based shooter. The same conversation flags a self-revive beat — a little doll version of a hound — as something the game lets you do. Finn is the page where we talk about not staying dead, and about not using that as an excuse to greed the swarm.

He still builds. He still beams. He still boosts. If you skip How to build because you wanted to be “the revive guy,” you will Play Dead next to a cold fabricator.

Public kit

  • Play Dead. Named on camera. A stall, a bait, a second chance — the exact tooltip is not on Steam, so we will not print a duration.
  • Self-revive adjacent. Trailer coverage plus the IGN follow-up. Whether that button is Finn-only or a pack-wide last chance is the kind of detail Early Access will settle. This page will not claim a monopoly Finn may not have.
  • Shared floor. Guns, Grav Beam, pipe, turrets, Reward Pods.

Dog personalities were an early design spark for Octopus Panic. Finn is that joke with a cooldown — whatever the number turns out to be.

How to spend Finn on a shift

Early: you are still a construction worker. Play Dead does not print Build Kits.

Mid: you are allowed to take a riskier peel because you have a stall. You are not allowed to take four. The co-op guide exists so your pack does not treat a down as a group picnic.

Late: Play Dead is extract insurance, not a mining permit. If the clock on How to extract has called it, stop finding wildlife to roleplay with.

Solo: a stall is worth more when nobody can revive you. Leave earlier than a four-stack would. Intense alone is not a challenge coin.

Pack: you are the gun/peel hat more often than the spine hat. Pair with Dozer so the ground you stand up on is already mined.

Pack partners

  • Dozer: denial plus a stall is how you hold a choke during extract.
  • Selene: she goes long; you keep the middle from becoming a wipe while she is airborne on a disc.
  • Zane / Luna: flex guns. Finn should not be the only person looking at wildlife.
  • Four Finns: a comedy of fake corpses. Mix the crew if you want coverage.

Tier talk, labeled as preview

The crew preview ranks Finn well for having a named survival tool in a game about escalating swarms. Survival tools look godlike in trailers and merely fine when everyone has Reward Pods. We will wait for live play. For theory, a Finn who never sockets a turret is still a bad Gravhound.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Playing dead on the pipe so a teammate grinds into you at unlimited boost. Please.
  • Baiting three rescuers into the same leaper.
  • Skipping Getting Started because the unique button looked like a whole class.
  • Assuming self-revive means failed extracts are free. The crate still has to reach the dropship.

Finn is the pack’s sense of humor with a job attached. Use the joke. Hit quota. COSMO is not laughing. See Luna and Zane if you want flex pages, or Selene if you would rather throw a disc than lie down.

Using a stall without becoming the problem

Play Dead is a tempo tool. Spend it to break a leaper animation, to bait a turret cone, or to survive a beam accident you should not have caused. Do not spend it to start a stand-up routine in front of the dropship while the crate is still on a ridge. The loadouts page will offer you firepower pods that make stalling feel optional; take them, then still leave.

If self-revive is pack-wide in the client, Finn becomes a personality, not a crutch, and that is fine. The job remains pipe, kits, extract. Bookmark Getting Started for the order of operations you should be able to recite while pretending to be a corpse.

Quick answers for Gravhounds players.

What is Finn's unique ability?
