Gravhounds Controls and Movement

How the industrial rig actually moves — before a final key card exists.

Controls and Movement

Gravhounds is a third-person action builder that wants you moving while you build. Josh Holmes’ gamescom interviews and the Xbox Wire essay describe the same kit on every hound: an industrial propulsion rig for boost, jump jets for height, hover to stay in the air, and a pipeline grind that turns your power spine into a high-speed rail. Steam lists full controller support, DualShock, DualSense, camera comfort, and playable-without-timed-input flags. This page is the movement briefing. It does not invent WASD binds Octopus Panic has not published.

Read Getting Started for the job loop, then come back here when the trailer makes you ask how a dog in a helmet covers that much ground.

What is confirmed

  • Booster rig. Lateral boost to answer threats. Holmes said movement should feel fast and fluid, not a cover-shooter shuffle.
  • Jump jets. Jump and hover. Vertical play is part of the design, not a secret parkour DLC.
  • Pipeline supercharge. Get on the pipe and the rig gives unlimited boost. Official copy warns that unauthorized recreational use is prohibited, which is developer humor for “you will do this constantly.” See How to build for why the pipe has to exist first.
  • Full controller support on the Steam listing. Keyboard and mouse are implied for a Windows shooter. We will not print a fake PC key table.
  • Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC share the Game Preview date. Play Anywhere is on the Xbox Wire module. Details live on platforms.

Until a settings screenshot is public, bind intents, not folklore: move, look, fire, Grav Beam, place/build, jump/hover, boost, interact.

How to think about a first shift

Early minutes are not a speedrun. You land at the dropship, lay pipe, and only then does unlimited grind exist. A hound who boosts into the desert before the fabricator exists is cardio, not logistics. Pair this page with How to extract so mobility is a leave tool, not a mining excuse.

Solo: you rotate every hat. Keep the spine short so a boost actually returns you to a turret line.

Pack: name who is allowed to go long. Selene Fetch is extra distance on top of the shared rig. Dozer still needs to walk mines onto the ground you just skipped. Co-op is the social layer.

Combat movement, not a dance pad

The Grav Beam is a hold-and-release tool. Boosting while you are carrying volatile cargo is how Steam’s disclaimer earns its keep. See Grav Beam. Hover lets you socket a kit on a ridge; it does not make you immune to leapers. Holmes described the rig as the tool you use when somebody made a series of poor decisions and now requires assistance. Again.

Accessibility flags on Steam (camera comfort, color alternatives, custom volume, subtitles, no timed-input requirement) mean the studio is not designing a pure reaction test. That still is not a promise that a 2014 laptop will hover at 60 FPS. Check system requirements.

What we will add after November 2

A real bind table. A screenshot of the settings menu. Any difference between pad and mouse that players actually feel. Until Game Preview, treat movement as: boost to the fire, hover to place, grind the pipe to save the mule, then extract. The weapons page covers what you shoot after you arrive. The crew roster covers who you arrive as.

If a playtest wave already put a pad in your hands, send bind feedback to Discord rather than demanding this wiki invent keys. The playtest waves article is the current invite window. COSMO still expects you on the pipe, not in the options menu forever.
